“Research and Arguments for New Housing Policies for the Benefit of the Whole Society” is a crucial project aimed at developing long-term, needs-based municipal and national housing policies. Its goal is to ensure adequate and safe housing and living environments, particularly for Roma communities.

The project was designed for Habitat for Humanity Bulgaria, part of the global non-governmental organization Habitat for Humanity International. Operating in over 70 countries, Habitat for Humanity champions adequate housing conditions as a basic human right and works to raise public awareness to eradicate housing poverty.

We’re highlighting a key partnership between Habitat for Humanity Bulgaria and the European Climate Foundation, focused on critical advocacy activities to combat energy poverty through enhanced energy efficiency in housing.

From July 2020 to June 2021, Habitat Bulgaria implemented their first joint advocacy project, making significant strides in policy development. Habitat Bulgaria actively advocated for the adoption of a Long-term Strategy for the Renovation of the Housing and Non-housing Stock 2021-2050, the development of a definition, parameters and content of “Energy Poverty” and the prolongation of the National Programme for Energy Efficiency of the Multi-family Buildings on the basis of new principles for co-financing and selection and with a focus on supporting the low-income households for their participation in the Programme. This collaboration underscores a commitment to systemic change, aiming to provide equitable access to energy-efficient and affordable housing solutions.
