We had the privilege of collaborating with photographer Lina Tonev (Tsvetelina Toneva) on her thought-provoking projects, “Homo technicus” and “Homo technicus vs Homo sapiens.” Tonev’s work ingeniously uses assembled and photographed models of human-like organs, which she then integrates into her reproductions of world-famous artworks. This artistic process compels us to question our evolving identity: to what extent are we homo (human), and to what extent digitalis – digital devices?
For these projects, we designed and distributed three limited-edition photo zines. The print edition of “Homo technicus vs Homo sapiens” received international recognition in a competition for independent photography publications, a testament to its compelling visual narrative and our design execution. Furthermore, “Homo technicus” was showcased in an exhibition at Synthesis Gallery in Sofia, accompanied by a program of engaging workshops for children.

Lina Tonev (Tsvetelina Toneva) is a contemporary artist working at the exciting intersection of visual and digital arts. Her artistic projects consistently explore the complex relationship between technology and humanity.
With a Master’s degree in “Computer Systems and Technologies” from the Technical University – Sofia, Lina brings a unique technical foundation to her creative practice. She actively shares her expertise, teaching “Introduction to Programming for Artists” and “Interactive Animation” in the Master’s program “Digital Arts” at the National Academy of Arts – Sofia. Additionally, she conducts programming training courses for children at the Nikola Tesla Academy, fostering the next generation of digital creators.
